Discovering Puglia: Vinnie’s first adventure in south-east Italy

This summer, we embarked on a memorable trip to Puglia, a charming region in southern Italy, where Franz was born and raised, for a family wedding. It was Vinnie’s first time visiting this beautiful part of the country, and we couldn’t have asked for a better occasion to introduce her to Franz’s extended family. The trip was filled with joy, laughter, and countless unforgettable moments.

A warm welcome and family reunions

Our adventure began with a warm welcome from Franz’s relatives. It was heartwarming to see Vinnie bond with everyone, even if she had just met them all for the first time. We had a huge dinner together—we were around 40 people!, and despite her initial shyness, she had a lot of fun (and lots of good food).

On top of it, Zia Sara and Zio Michele made the journey from central Italy to join us for a few days. Their presence added an extra layer of warmth and familiarity to our trip.

The Wedding Celebration

The highlight of our trip was undoubtedly Antonio and Stefania’s wedding. The ceremony was held in a picturesque venue surrounded by the stunning landscapes of Puglia. They got married under two big olive trees that merge together to create one big trunk—a beautiful metaphor of what we wish them for many years ahead.

The atmosphere was magical, with everyone dressed to the nines and the venue beautifully decorated. The food was a true feast for the senses, showcasing the region’s rich culinary heritage. Vinnie especially loved the local delicacies; we all indulged in the exquisite dishes.

The celebrations continued with lively music and dancing as the night went on. Vinnie danced the night away (at least as much as she could possibly endure!), honouring the joyous occasion. It was a perfect introduction to Italian weddings’ vibrant and festive spirit.

Sun, Sea, and Sand

In addition to the wedding festivities, we spent some blissful days at the beach. Puglia’s coastline is renowned for its crystal-clear waters and pristine sandy beaches. Lavinia was enchanted by the turquoise sea and the soft, golden sand. We spent our days swimming, playing on the beach, sunbathing, and exploring the beautiful seaside towns. It was the perfect way to relax and unwind after a year of pretty ugly weather in the UK.

Cherished Memories

Our trip to Puglia was a wonderful blend of family, culture, and relaxation. Lavinia’s first experience in this enchanting region of Italy was nothing short of spectacular. From the warm family reunions to the stunning wedding celebrations and the serene beach days, every moment was filled with joy and discovery.

As we bid farewell to Puglia, we carried a treasure trove of memories and a deeper connection to Franz’s heritage. Vinnie is already looking forward to our next Italian adventure, and so are we!
